WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Join Purdue experts for the Digital Ag Showcase on September 8 at the Beck Agricultural Center in West Lafayette. Attendees will learn about cutting-edge research related to data-driven agriculture, see demonstrations showcasing practical applications and tools that can be used on their farms, and tour campus research facilities focused on digital agriculture.
“The day will be filled with demonstrations and highlighting ongoing work at Purdue related to data-driven agriculture,” said Dennis Buckmaster, professor of agricultural and biological engineering and dean for digital agriculture. “You will be able to get your hands on new sensors, discover free and practical tools for collecting and analyzing data, and network with researchers, extension specialists and graduate students paving the way for UAV applications, the deployment of sensors, decision-making and automation.”
Topics to cover include:
- Use of drones (UAVs) in row crops, including low-input, high-yield scouting.
- Demonstrations of Purdue’s field phenotyping capabilities.
- Improved management approaches for soybeans and corn.
- Launch of GROW, a new web application allowing corn growers to monitor the physiological status of their corn fields.
- Replacement of the “logbook” with digital field sheets.
Participants can choose to take campus tours to visit Purdue faculty in their research spaces, including the Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building, the Creighton Hall of Animal Sciences, and the Ag Alumni Seed Phenotyping Facility.
For those interested in Private Pesticide Applicator (PARP) and Commercial Applicator credits, continuing certification hours will be offered in categories 1, 11, 14 and RT. Purdue Extension specialists will deliver a one-hour workshop featuring UAV demonstrations on pest scouting, soil nutrient monitoring, herbicide applications, the benefits of precision agricultural chemical applications and the safety of anhydrous ammonia.
Registration is requested by September 1st as lunch will be provided. Register on purdue.ag/digitalagshowcase.
