Niagara County Legislator Randy Bradt announced that registration is open for the county’s next Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event, to be held Saturday, November 5 in North Tonawanda. The event is open to all Niagara County residents. Registration is mandatory.
Bradt said the event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the North Tonawanda Department of Public Works located at 758 Erie Ave. Registration can be done by going to www.rethinkyourwaste.com/events and scroll down to the North Tonawanda event. There is also a list of items that will be accepted for recycling posted on this website, including latex paint, which is a recent addition.
“This is the county’s last household hazardous waste collection event of the year, as you’re packing for winter, it’s a great time to get rid of those leftover paint, pesticides, pool chemicals and other items left in your garage or basement,” Bradt said.
Niagara County Environmental Coordinator Dawn Timm said that in the 10 years of the RDD program, more than 900,000 pounds of harmful products have been removed from Niagara County homes.
“The steps we take to encourage the recycling of paint and other RDD in a responsible manner ensure that these materials do not end up in our soil or water, protecting our local environment,” she said.
