THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education Minister Sivankutty has again intervened in the case of a section of teachers failing to assess Plus Two Chemistry answer sheets. The minister called a meeting of officials from the Department of Public Instruction to discuss the matter. Sivankutty said an honest and fair assessment will be assured.
“Students will get the grades they deserve. Parents and students don’t have to worry about that. If there are any shortcomings in the answer key prepared and posted on the portal, it will be checked,” said The Minister.
The assessment controversy raised concerns among students about the Plus Two Chemistry exam, which was a difficult exam in general. Teachers said students risked losing between ten and twenty points if the current answer index was used. Most of the difficult questions came from outside the focus area. There was also an error in the options given as answers to some questions.
12 senior teachers had rearranged the answer key when finalizing the scheme to allay concerns about the questionnaire. But controversy arose when the Department of Education insisted that the answer key prepared by the questioner be used for the assessment.
