November 29 (THEWILL) – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) introduced a cashless policy in its enrollment process from the 2022 Unified Tertiary Enrollment Examination (UTME).
With the adoption of the new system, JAMB would collect the approved N700 registration fee on behalf of the various Computerized Test Centers (CBTs) as well as its UTME registration fee.
In its weekly bulletin released Monday, the Council said that money owed to each registration center will be paid into the relevant bank accounts on a weekly basis or at any other time acceptable to center owners.
JAMB said its decision to go cashless would end the fraudulent activities of some CBT centers, which charge applicants fees in excess of the stipulated fees.
âThis commendable milestone arose from a careful examination of the entire UTME registration process which revealed some unethical and unacceptable practices by many Computerized Testing Centers (CBTs).
âIt should be noted that these centers are only allowed to charge seven hundred naira (N700) as a registration fee, but some owners of fraudulent centers have abused this opportunity to engage in conduct unbecoming of respectable establishments. by engaging in the massive extortion of candidates, among other things. , during exercise.
âTherefore, the board has decided to make the UTME registration process cashless from now on to put an end to such acts of extortion. This intervention will block all the loopholes through which unlucky applicants are extorted by ineligible service providers.

âThis process will in no way increase the cost of the UTME registration which remains the same as it was the previous year. As such, only the payment process has changed, not the cost, âhe added.
Meanwhile, UTME applicants can now choose Computer Studies and Physical and Health Education as part of their four UTME subjects if they so choose or according to their program preferences.
âThis addition aims to improve the career prospects of students transitioning to higher education institutions. At present, the 23 UTME subjects are; Agricultural sciences, Arabic, art, biology, chemistry, Christian religious studies, commerce, economics, French, geography, government, Hausa, history, home economics, Igbo, Islamic studies, literature in English, mathematics, music, physics, accounting principles , use of English and Yoruba, âthe organization said.
