ARLINGTON, Virginia. – Registration is now open for the 2023 Pet Food Conference, hosted annually by the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) in conjunction with the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) in Atlanta. The one-day conference for pet food professionals and aspiring students will be held January 24 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Georgia World Congress Center.
Over 350 industry professionals, including pet food and treat manufacturers, ingredient and equipment suppliers and other industry members are expected to attend.
This year’s conference agenda will cover hot topics in food safety, regulation and sustainability, as well as key national and global trends impacting the pet food market today. today.
Worth Turner, Managing Director of Custom Veterinary Supplies, will kick off the day-long conference with his presentation on Mergers and Acquisitions, followed by Scot Hawks, Senior Consultant at ToxStrategies, who will speak on aflatoxin sampling approaches. Nancy Rawson, Acting Director and President of the Monell Chemical Senses Center, will discuss sensory responses in companion animals. Jon Copeland, Research Strategist at MarketPlace, will discuss global trends and their impact on the pet food industry. Lara Moody, executive director of the Institute for Feed Education and Research (IFEEDER), will moderate a panel on sustainability, and a representative from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expected to discuss regulatory updates to close the day. A networking breakfast and lunch will be offered.
As in past years, one hour of the conference will be devoted to student research. Graduate students conducting research relevant to the pet food industry were invited to present their work at the conference, providing a key networking opportunity with established members of the industry. Additionally, undergraduate students can request that a research poster be presented alongside the conference. Requests for student presentations are due November 7.
The AFIA will also present the winners of its Friend of Pet Food 2023 award, which recognizes professionals who have made a significant contribution to the growth of the pet food industry. Nominations for this year’s award closed on September 2.
